Although still largely a rumour, Deadline reports that American filmmaker Martin Scorsese — the director behind Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, The Departed, and Hugo — is currently gathering material and talking to writers about developing a series on King Leopold II, the Belgian monarch who ruled what is now the DRC in the late 1800s.
The series will focus on Leopold’s lucrative and terrible reign in which he plundered natural resources, cut off the hands of locals who failed to meet quotas, and was responsible for the deaths of millions of Africans.
