Officials have chosen Rwanda’s General Jean Bosco Kazura to lead MINUSMA, the UN’s operation in Mali, reports RFI.
Although some authorities petitioned for a Chadian general who could work well alongside the French, they ultimately picked Kazura due to his experience, the strong impression he made during his hearing, and because “diplomats also recognize that the Rwandan army is among the most efficient and disciplined the continent.”
Kazura will be responsible for 12,600 troops deployed in northern Mali, where armed groups remain active and the UN anticipates attacks against peacekeepers.
