With President Paul Kagame as the guest of honour, five young African entrepreneurs were recently given Transform Africa Awards for developing IT solutions to address social problems, reports the New Times.
Organizers awarded firms from Rwanda, Kenya (two), Ghana, and South Africa. Rwanda’s start-up, Hehe Ltd, finished in first place, receiving a cash prize of US$7500 (Rwf4.8 million).
“Hehe Ltd was founded in 2010 as a mobile technologies company with a vision to help transform Rwanda and Africa into an information society by increasing access to vital information,” said Amiri Mugarura, Hehe Ltd’s chief technology officer.
